Steve qualified from Leeds University in 1985 and worked in practices in West and South Yorkshire for 5 years. He moved to Malton in 1990 and became a partner in 1994. He enjoys all aspects of General Dental Practice but has a special interest in Orthodontics (straightening teeth using braces). He has worked in the Orthodontic Department at Scarborough Hospital since 1997 and treats most of our patients who require braces here at the practice.

Steve has a strong commitment to postgraduate education and has been a trainer to six newly qualified dentists over the years. He is very popular with his patients having been the dentist for several generations of families as they have grown up! He is married with 3 children. Tim qualified in Newcastle in 1996 and trained in Conscious Sedation in 1998 with SAAD.

In 2000 he became a Partner at the Dental Health Practice. Alongside working at the practice, he sees referral cases at Love Dental in York; he is also a Clinical Assistant in Restorative Dentistry at Scarborough Hospital; having previously been a Clinical Demonstrator at Leeds Dental Institute and a trainer to newly qualified dentists.
Services
This is the cornerstone of all modern dentistry.
Using the skills and knowledge of our Dentist, our Hygienists and our Oral Health Educators we aim to help our patients look after their mouths better and so reduce the number of fillings and crowns they will need over their lifetime.
While it is never too late to learn good habits it is especially important to start children off with good tooth brushing and good diet patterns.
Prevention encompasses cleaning the teeth and learning how to modify your existing techniques to remove more plaque more consistently; it also covers placing sealants on teeth to prevent decay or stop it in its tracks if it has only just started; Orthodontics and gum shields can also be considered prevention as they are proven to reduce the risk of trauma to the front teeth and straight teeth are usually easier to keep clean; a big aid to prevention is Fluoride - this naturally occurring element penetrates the tooth enamel and makes it more resistant to acid attack and decay.
Wearing away of a tooth.
It may be caused by incorrect tooth brushing (The point where the tooth meets the gum is particularly vulnerable as the root may have become exposed).
It can be made worse by the use of abrasive toothpaste e.g.
Dental treatment will be needed to effect a cure, but some measures can be taken to ease the pain: Taking normal painkiller tablets and rinsing your mouth with hot water into which you have dissolved a teaspoonful of salt.
This may help soothe the pain and assist the healing process.
Your dentist needs to take an x-ray of your mouth to help with your care.
There are many benefits associated with the use of x-rays, such as your dentist being able to see what their eyes cannot (such as inside your bodyto find hidden dental structures, malignant or benign masses, bone loss, and cavities).
This is much safer than using invasive techniques such as surgery.
Dental x-rays are exceedingly safe, but like everything in life, there is a degree of risk involved - you will receive a negligible dose of radiation which carries a tiny (less than one in a million) chance of side effects.
At The Dental Health Practice we take complaints very seriously and try to ensure that all our patients are pleased with their experience of our service.
When patients complain, they are dealt with courteously and promptly so that the matter is resolved as quickly as possible.
These procedures are based on these objectives.
