Our dental practice has served the Lesmahagow community for over 30 years, with Richard taking over from his father Iain Coventry in 2012. A reputation has been built based on delivering dental treatment to a good NHS standard. Private cosmetic treatments, including tooth whitening and dentures can be provided on request. An emphasis is placed on prevention and a key goal of the dental team is to encourage & support our patients to aspire to keep their teeth free from tooth decay and gum disease.

We are committed to the Childsmile programme. Call us, in Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire, for more information on our dentists and dental practice. We are always happy to take on new NHS patients, both adult and child. If you wish to register with this practice you will need to make an appointment for a new patient exam. You will either have the option to make your next regular check up at the end of your previous course of treatment or to receive notification of your next check up being due in 6 months' time.
Services
Richard graduated in 2004.
He has worked across the UK, in general practice, the hospital service and the salaried dental service.
In 2012 he took over this practice from his father.
Richard is fully committed to continued professional development and has just finished a PG certificate in Oral Surgery at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN).
In 2019 he completed a postgraduate diploma in Prosthodontics at UCLAN and presently has the option to do another dissertation to obtain an MSc in Prosthodontics.
If you have a dental emergency, telephone reception, where possible, during opening hours.
If you require urgent care, and you are a registered patient, you will be given advice to help manage the symptoms and seen within 24 hours.
If your mouth is bleeding or if you suffered a traumatic injury to your mouth/face please contact your nearest accident & emergency department to have it assessed without delay.
When the practice re-opens please contact us for further assessment.
Keep extremes of temperature away from your affected teeth.
If you have had a tooth extracted, please be aware it takes 3 / 4 weeks for the gums to heal and up to six months for the bone to heal.
Rest for a few hours following treatment and avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day.
You can help avoid infection by starting to rinse your mouth 24 hours after the procedure.
Rinse with warm salty water (one teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) or chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% (one brand name is Corsodyl).
Rinse for 7 days after the day of treatment 3 / 4 times a day.
Childsmile is the Scottish Government's public health initiative to improve the oral health of all children in Scotland.
Our practice fully supports the initiative and we are a Childsmile Practice.
We believe in prevention based dentistry.
Looking after your children's teeth is 50% good diet and 50% good toothbrushing.
Richard has a Masters in Public Health and presented at the National Symposium on Childsmile in 2012.
NHS Scotland advises parents to register your baby soon after birth and to ensure that this is done by the time they're six months old.
