Specialist Dental Care
Specialist Dental Care offers an expert level of dental care based upon our knowledge, training, qualifications, outstanding skills and years of experience. The specialist practice was founded by Martin Chan who is regarded as an expert in Restorative and Implant Dentistry. He has devoted his career to achieving clinical excellence. At Specialist Dental Care he has assembled a team of Consultant Specialists offering services in Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, and Implant Dentistry at the highest level.

The practice attracts referrals from hundreds of general dentists, as well as other dental and medical specialists across the Yorkshire region and beyond. We also welcome direct contact from patients and routinely receive self-referrals from patients themselves, based upon our excellent reputation and word of mouth recommendations. In these times of marketing, hype and spin, it can be really difficult to choose where to go for your specialist dental needs.

At Specialist Dental Care you can be confident of receiving professional, personalised care delivered by registered specialists within the comfort of our modern purpose built clinic.
Services
Following your referral, you will be contacted to arrange a mutually convenient appointment time for an initial consultation.
At the consultation a thorough history, examination and assessment will be carried out.
The various treatment options will be discussed in an informative and objective manner, based upon your needs and wants.
A comprehensive report will be prepared for you, highlighting the treatment options available and any associated costs.
A separate technical report will be prepared for the referring dentist.
The natural teeth can be whitened using a bleaching technique.
There are various ways of bleaching teeth, but one of the most effective techniques is using a home bleaching technique.
Impressions are taken of the mouth and a thin, clear, tailor made tray is made that fits the teeth very well.
Bleaching gel is applied to the inside of the tray and the trays are worn for a few hours a day or overnight.
Over a period of a number of weeks, the natural teeth can be seen to lighten by a significant amount.
Root canal treatment is carried out when the nerve (dental pulp) of a tooth has become damaged and/or infected by dental decay, trauma, tooth wear or a crack in the tooth.
The damaged nerve tissues are removed painlessly and the inside of the tooth prepared very carefully to receive the root filling material.
Over recent years, the use of an operating microscope and other highly specialised pieces of equipment has become routine in specialist endodontics.
Once a root filling has been successfully completed, the tooth can be restored and brought into function and given a good appearance, with various type of restoration (as above).
Gum disease can be prevented and treated successfully by a course of hygiene treatment.
The aim of the treatment is to find the best regime for the patient to achieve the highest level of oral hygiene and for the hygienist to remove any deposits of dental plaque or calculus from the teeth and roots in order to allow the gums to recover and heal.
For more advanced gum disease special antibiotics and surgical treatments are sometimes used after the initial course of hygiene treatment.
The occurrence of excessive gum tissue or gum recession can sometimes be treated with specialised surgical techniques to improve the appearance, comfort, function and longevity of the gums.
Even if you have the best fillings, veneers, crowns or bridges, tooth decay can still occur at the margins where these restorations and the natural teeth meet.
It is therefore essential that you clean the teeth to the highest level and control or cut down the amount of sugar in food and drinks in your diet.
Regular visits to see the dental hygienist will help you maintain the best level of oral hygiene and help prevent further tooth decay and gum disease.
We recommend that you should see a dental hygienist every 3-6 months, depending upon your particular situation.
