Over the past years, we have seen a continued growth at Westgate Dental Clinic, despite the current economic climate. I hope that this is in part due to the fact that we really care about our patients. It is with pride that I follow the progress of patients that have come to us as children, go through their orthodontic treatment and fly the nest to university, marriage and then bringing in children of their own.

Although we have seen changes in dentistry, my commitment to you as a patient stays the same. I give honest, preventative advice and the choices in treatment options that I would like my family and friends to receive. As a dentist in Winchester, my staff and I are committed to providing you with the best dental care possible.
Services
At the Westgate Dental Clinic in Winchester we have a range of dental services and procedures aimed at improving the health of your teeth.
In the following pages we've prepared some information on the methods and techniques we use everyday.
If there is a topic you are especially interested in that is not covered, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Digital technology means that you as a patient receive between 60% - 90% less radiation than normal.
Root canal treatment is a routine but necessary procedure when the nerve supply (also known as the pulp) to the tooth is infected - either through decay or trauma.
Very few people have perfectly white teeth, and our teeth can also become more discoloured as we get older.
Your teeth can also be stained by food and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine and blackcurrant.
Smoking can also stain teeth.
Our home teeth whitening system is effective and safe and we recommend Philips ZOOM! whitening gel.
The process is very simple: we'll arrange an appointment where the dentist will take two impressions and explain how to use and apply the whitening system.
He'll also make a note of your current tooth colour/shade.
A routine but necessary procedure when the nerve supply (also known as the pulp) to the tooth is infected - either through decay or trauma.
The treatment is carried out in order to remove all infection from the root canal of the tooth.
The canal is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection.
Root canal treatment is a skilled and time consuming procedure and might take two or more visits to complete.
If left untreated an infected nerve supply can lead to the formation of an abscess and even in extreme cases, the need to remove the tooth.
A dental implant can be seen as a artificial root (made of a metal called titanium) that replaces the root of a tooth that has been lost.
Bone grows right onto an implant forming a solid structure.
We can then place single crowns or bridges onto the implant.
They can also be used to retain dentures enabling our patients to eat and smile with confidence.
Michael Meyer: Dentists need to undertake special training to be able to do implants and I have been trained by Dr Hilt Tatum at the Tatum Institute for Implantology.
At Westgate Dental we believe that our younger patients can benefit from being taught the correct way to brush and floss as early as possible.
Therefore we recommend that all children see the hygienist on a regular basis for cleanings and oral hygiene instruction.
Bringing children in for regular check-ups is also a way to ensure that they develop a positive relationship with their dentist.
Before your child's permanent teeth arrive it is important that your child has a good diet and that their sugar intake is controlled.
