Plumfield Dental Practice is a friendly, independent, family-run dentist, in the heart of Carlisle's historic city centre. We provide everyday, essential care for the whole community, in a long-established, accessible setting. We aim to diagnose and treat oral disease early and help prevent future problems, at regular check-ups. We strive to meet the health needs of our NHS patient base, and can also offer cosmetic and non-cosmetic dentistry on a private basis.
Going to the dentist is not my favourite place to be but I can honestly say that this time it was a positive experience with hardly any apprehension or anxiety. In my experience to have such confidence in a new dentist is quite remarkable and unusual. I therefore have no hesitation in recommending this new Principal to any other patient. Consideration, fully explanations and completeness in all the work carried out with sensitivity displayed to take into account age and illness.
Surgery (and waiting room) spotless with all staff showing confidence and concentration yet humour figured well too.

Air polishing, sometimes known as airflow, is a safe, painless and cost-effective way to improve the colour of your teeth by removing stains.
It removes discolouration caused by smoking, tea, coffee and red wine.
It can also help with maintaining gum health for patients who find traditional scaling and polishing by the hygienist, sensitive or painful, as it requires no vibration and minimal pressure on teeth and gums.
Air polishing can be undertaken in a single visit, as often as you need, by your dentist, dental therapist or dental hygienist.

Inhalation sedation involves breathing in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen.
Sedation is used to help adults and children have dental treatment and is sometimes called 'happy gas' or 'gas and air'.
It can help with anxiety about dental treatment.
It can also help if you/your child have a tendency to gag during treatment.
We can offer this to children from around the age of 5 or 6.
Your child will be conscious (awake) the whole time and will be able to talk to you and the dentist.
This should help with any worries they may have, and they should be able to cope with treatment more easily.

Due to the sealed customised trays and the combination of home and in-surgery treatment, results are more rapidly achieved and are of the whitest natural shade.
If the teeth have white spots on them before bleaching, these spots will appear whiter during the first few days.
However, the contrast between the spots and the rest of the teeth will reduce.
Eventually, this will not be noticeable.
Sometimes, other procedures, such as Microbrasion or Resin Infiltration can be used to more permanently reduce or remove the white spots.
