There are several options to solve these problems based on your level of dental health and budgetary constraints.
They range from dentures to bridges to implants and we can help you with all of them.
Dental hygiene is the cornerstone to a long lasting healthy mouth.
The dental examination shows how healthy you mouth is.
After the examination, you and your dentist can discuss the results and plan the best way to deal with any problems.
Your general health and any medicines you might be taking (because these can affect your dental care);.
How you clean your teeth (because correct cleaning helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease);.
Look inside your mouth, at your tongue, your cheeks and lips, roof of you mouth and back of your throat (places where there might be a problem that you can't see or feel);.
Ask a series of questions about your problem as well as looking at your teeth and gums and take some x-rays.
If you are a patient of the practice, we recommend you phone as early in the day as possible so we can see you promptly.
Obviously if your problem is serious such as uncontrollable haemorrhage or airway closure, you should attend A+E immediately.
Persons who are not patients of the practice who are experiencing problems are welcome to ring in office hours only.
We do not deal with emergencies for unregistered patients out of hours.
A filling replaces part of a tooth that has been lost because of decay or accidental damage.
Unlike silver (amalgam) fillings, white fillings stick to teeth so they can be used to repair teeth (especially front teeth) which have been chipped, broken or decayed.
They can sometimes be used in back teeth if there is not too much decay or damage.
You will probably hear the dentist talk about 'composite' or 'glass ionomer' - these are just different types of white filling.
Wash and dry the tooth by blowing water and air onto it (the dentist will be holding something which looks like a water pistol);.
Dentures are made of plastic and sometimes metal as well to make them strong and less bulky.
A dental technician (usually off site) makes a plaster model of your teeth and makes the dentures on them.
Dentures will never feel completely like your own teeth and it can take a little while to get used to them.
If you've never worn one before, ask your dentist to explain the benefits and difficulties of wearing them.
A bridge replaces a missing tooth (or teeth) by fixing the replacement to the natural teeth on either side of the gap.
