The inside of every tooth contains a delicate and complex structure of soft tissue and nerves, so if an infection occurs, it's important to undergo treatment as soon as possible - to preserve the health of your tooth and gums.
Root canal treatment is a form of endodontic therapy which focuses on the internal structures of your tooth.
Signs and symptoms of an endodontic infection include swelling, general dental pain, sensitivity when chewing and/or the formation of an abscess.
During root canal therapy, the affected tooth is opened up and the infection is carefully cleared from the dental root/pulp using tiny files.
Sometimes it becomes necessary to remove teeth that have been irreparably damaged by decay, trauma or have loosened.
Extraction removes the affected tooth and allows you to enjoy improved dental health by focusing on the remaining natural teeth and preserving the gums.
While keeping your natural teeth in place is always the preferred option, occasionally extraction is the only form of treatment that can ensure your overall dental health for the long term.
At Fitzroy Dental Practice, we always try to ensure that tooth extraction is a quick and comfortable procedure.
They are typically used towards the back of the mouth and are often used on teeth that show signs of damage or decay.
They offer more coverage than a filling yet slightly less than a crown.
They are also used to replace old silver amalgam fillings.
Inlays are fitted within the four corners of a tooth while onlays overlap the four corners.
Each inlay or onlay is made specifically for your individual tooth.
While inlays and onlays can be made from a variety of materials, most of our patients choose tooth-coloured options as these blend in with the natural teeth and are undetectable to others.
