Broad Walk Dental Practice
Broad Walk Dental Practice is a family run dental practice situated in the heart of the Buxton conservation area, providing a full range of NHS and private treatment options. Brothers, Drs Alexander and Duncan Hannah took over the practice in 2012 and have since been concentrating on building a positive reputation within the area. The practice is a member of the BDA good practice guide which means we conform to the high standards as set out by the British Dental Association and are inspected regularly.

Our main focus is high quality family dental care. Our commitment to excellent patient care and compliant practice management was audited and approved in 2015 by the British Dental Association. This means that on top of the national regulations and protocols that are expected to be followed by all Dental Healthcare Professionals - including the CQC Guidelines, Broad Walk Dental Practice always goes the extra mile by following the BDA's Code of Practice.

We take part in continuing professional development to keep our skills and knowledge up-to-date.
Services
Emergency appointments are available daily.
Once they are booked for the current day, the following day does not become available to book until the morning of the following day so you may be asked to call back then if all the appointments for the current day have been booked.
We are continuing to try our best to offer advice and emergency appointments where possible to anyone in genuine need, whether you have been seen here before or not.
If we have the availability we will happily try our best to get you out of pain.
A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape.
During a filling procedure, the decayed tooth material is removed, the affected area is cleaned and then the filling is placed in to the cleaned out cavity.
The filling is then smoothed and shaped accordingly.
By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling also helps prevent further decay.
Fillings are made from a number of different materials.
Traditionally, all dental fillings were silver based amalgam, This is still used routinely today for fillings in back teeth due to its strength and resistance to wear.
Crowns are one of the methods by which teeth can be rebuilt.
If you have a tooth with extensive damage or decay, and a filling would not be appropriate, your dentist may recommend a crown.
The tooth is prepared and the crown then covers the damaged tooth to prevent further decay.
Crowns can be metal, metal covered with porcelain, or entirely porcelain.
The material chosen depends on where in your mouth the crown is needed; for example, crowns that are completely metal are normally only suitable for back teeth.
Your dentist may recommend a bridge if you have only a few teeth missing.
It is important to replace missing teeth even if you are not concerned about your appearance because the gap allows the remaining teeth to drift out of position.
This may eventually affect their function.
The bridge is effectively a row of crowns connected together in one piece but made to look like individual teeth.
Once the bridge is finished it is bonded on to the prepared teeth permanently to fill the space.
Bridges may be made from metal or they may be metal covered with a thin layer of porcelain to appear more natural.
When a cavity is large and extends into the inner part of the tooth containing the nerves, your dentist may recommend a root canal treatment (also referred to as endodontic treatment).
If a tooth is broken or a cavity or hole becomes so large that it reaches into the root canal, then bacteria may enter and destroy the nerves.
This may be extremely painful and can lead to abscess formation and infection in the gum or jawbone.
Root canal fillings can avoid the need for extraction of the affected tooth.
