Schoolhill Dental Practice
The practice provides private dental care to all new patients allowing ample time to discuss any further treatment required to maintain good oral health. Anyone joining the practice will be asked to complete a medical history form and we ask you to provide us with details of any current medication, allowing us to discuss in detail your dental requirements.

We continually focus on both the development and improvement of the clinical and non-clinical aspects of the care of our patients. We are able to provide our patients with a high standard of care enhanced by the use of good quality materials, whether this treatment involves restorations (fillings) or periodontal (gum) treatment provided by our fully qualified dental hygienist.

We offer a range of more specialised treatment including the use of veneers, crown, bridgework and tooth whitening. We hope to offer convenient appointments to suit everyone, with the first appointments available at 8.30. Through our computerised recall system, we can send out reminders at the appropriate time to help maintain your oral health.
Services
Dental hygienists are specially trained to work with the dentist to give care to patients.
They play an important part in dental health care and are mainly concerned with preventive dental health and treating gum disease - showing you correct home care and helping to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
The hygienist's main work is to prevent and treat gum disease.
This includes professionally cleaning your teeth by removing plaque and tartar (usually called a 'scale and polish' or a prophylaxis).
A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth.
A crown is sometimes known as a 'cap'.
Crowns are an ideal way to repair teeth that have been broken, or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling.
Crowns can be made of a variety of different materials and new materials are continually being introduced.
Some of the most popular options are listed below.
Porcelain: these crowns are made entirely out of porcelain and are not as strong as bonded crowns.
Gum disease is described as swelling, soreness or infection of the tissues supporting the teeth.
There are two main forms of gum disease: gingivitis and periodontal disease.
Long-standing gingivitis can turn into periodontal disease.
There are a number of types of periodontal disease and they all affect the tissues supporting the teeth.
As the disease gets worse the bone anchoring the teeth in the jaw is lost, making the teeth loose.
If this is not treated, the teeth may eventually fall out.
Most people suffer from some form of gum disease, and it is a major cause of tooth loss in adults.
Root canal treatment (also called 'endodontics') is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (called the 'pulp') is infected through decay or injury.
You may not feel any pain in the early stages of the infection.
In some cases your tooth could darken in colour, which may mean that the nerve of the tooth has died (or is dying).
This would need root canal treatment.
If the pulp becomes infected, the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth.
This may eventually lead to an abscess.
Dentistry is no longer just a case of filling and taking out teeth.
Nowadays many people turn to cosmetic dentistry, or 'aesthetic dentistry', as a way of improving their appearance.
They do this in the same way they might use cosmetic surgery or even a new hairstyle.
The treatments can be used to straighten, lighten, reshape and repair teeth.
Cosmetic treatments include veneers, crowns, bridges, tooth-coloured fillings, implants and tooth whitening.
Veneers are thin slices of porcelain.
These are precisely made to fit over the visible surface of your front teeth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail.
