J Smallridge Dentalcare
We have brought together a team consisting of paediatric dentists, orthodontist, clinical psychologist, general dentist, hygienist and dental nurses with experience in dental health education, radiography and sedation, to provide a full range of dental care with an emphasis on preventing dental disease and treatment in a kind and caring manner, to help children and adult cope with any anxiety they feel about dentistry and achieve quality dentistry.

We aim to empower our patients to feel confident in their smiles and to be able look after their mouths in the optimum way between visits. As services gradually return we are able to offer more treatments. Many of you will have been or will be receiving phone calls. Due to the new regulations we have to work under, we are having to extend appointment times for additional cleaning and allowing air exchange in surgeries.

This does mean we cannot see as many people in one day as before.
Services
We offer a complete range of children's dentistry care, with an emphasis on a preventive dental approach.
We aim to provide high standard of care in a compassionate way, working closely with each other to provide complete dental care in a way most suited to each individual.
We are able to offer child centred care for your child, providing optimum prevention including fluoride treatments, fissure sealants, oral health education regarding brushing, eating and drinking and provision of mouth guards.
There is a large margin of safety, as the child will be breathing at least 30% oxygen (more than in normal air) throughout the procedure with rapid ability to reverse the sedation if desired.
The nasal mask does need to be kept on throughout treatment.
For about 10% of people the sedation has no effect and an alternative needs to be found.
This type of sedation is meant to alleviate anxiety, make time for treatment seem shorter and there are some mild analgesic effects, your child will not go to sleep and will still be able to talk.
We are really pleased that Rachael Willis is working at the practice to provide orthodontic care for our patients.
Rachael works part time at Addenbrookes as a Consultant in Orthodontics and will offer metal or aesthetic, removable, functional, clear aligners (invisalign) and lingual braces.
Rachael, Mina and Jackie are all used to working together to plan for more complex cases where teeth are missing or impacted.
Sometimes people have congenitally missing teeth, we can replace missing teeth or reshape or veneer teeth as needed, planning carefully with the orthodontist as needed.
We aim to supply good quality dentistry to all groups of the population with our patients involved in their care and able to choose from several ways of receiving care.
Adults can worry about having dental treatment as well as children and can have inhalational sedation to help if needed.
We endeavour to empower all our patients to look after their oral health in an optimum way.
Angela Leech will be bringing her 23 years of experience as a hygienist to the practice, Angela has continually maintained and upgraded her skills through continuing professional development and we are delighted that as well as working closely together with the dentists, she will be practicing with us as a direct access Hygienist as per the GDC regulations 2013.
All of us need reminders of how to best look after our teeth, and the "dental toolkit" (Delivering Bettering Oral Health: An evidence-based toolkit for Prevention) recommends that children at risk of caries have a fluoride varnish application every 3 to 4 months.
This can be achieved through a mixture of dental check ups and prevention clinic visits.
Fluoride varnish can also help with tooth sensitivity and particularly helps protect teeth as we get older and we develop a dry mouth so that we loose the protectiveness of the saliva.
